Commissions
I accept a limited number of portrait commissions each year.
Each commission begins with a conversation rather than a photograph. Together we explore the person, their history, gestures, memories, and the emotional presence they carry. Rather than producing a literal likeness, I create portraits that exist between representation and remembrance.
Working through analogue photography, painting, and archival research, every commission becomes a unique work within my artistic practice.
1
Initial Conversation
We begin with a conversation about the sitter, the purpose of the portrait, and the stories or memories that surround them.
2
Image Making
Depending on the project, I may photograph the sitter using analogue cameras, work from family archives, or create preliminary drawings.
3
Painting
The portrait develops slowly in the studio through multiple layers of oil paint. Throughout the process I share selected updates while allowing space for intuition and discovery.
4
Completion
The finished work is varnished, signed, and delivered ready to hang.
Production will depend on scale.
